January 11 According to news from the British media “Mirror”, the Portuguese star
Ronaldo’s replica of the 2013 Ballon d’Or was sold to Israel’s richest man, Idan Ofer, after a charity auction in London in 2017.
Ronaldo, who is currently playing for Saudi club Riyadh Victory, has won the Ballon d’Or five times, first in 2008 with Manchester United and four times with Real Madrid.
The 2013 Ballon d’Or was the most intense competition. Ronaldo defeated Messi and Ribery to win the final trophy.
(The 2013 contest was one of the more tightly-fought, with the Portugal star pipping Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery to top honours.)
The “Mirror” stated that after the 13-year Golden Globe Awards Ceremony, Ronaldo chose to donate the Golden Globe Trophy to charity. It was eventually auctioned and the proceeds will raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
At the auction, Israel’s richest man, Idan Ofer, bought it for 600,000 euros.
According to a report from “Marca” at the time, Ronaldo asked the charity to auction off his 2013 trophy as a replica, while ESPN also reported that the real trophy is still on display in the museum in Madeira.
The six-figure sum went directly to children’s charities, sending blessings to seriously ill children.
And at that event in London, many other items were auctioned off.
It includes a meeting with current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and then Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, priced at €30,000.
Ofer, the winning bidder for the Ronaldo Trophy, is reportedly worth $9.9bn (£8.1bn), according to Forbes, with stakes in two football clubs he invested in late 2017
Atletico Madrid, and then became the majority shareholder of the Portuguese team Famalicao.
It is reported that Ronaldo himself did not attend the auction, when his agent Mendes handed the trophy to Ofer.
